Description

It offers hospitality all year long to female University students.

History: the institute of the Orsoline nuns of Parma was founded in 1575 when widow Lucia Zanicchi, with the help of Father Giovanni Vaira, gave hospitality in her house to an abandoned girl. She was soon joined by many more, later known as Figlie del soccorso, living on charity.
Ottavio Farnese, Duke of Parma, became the patron of the institute, run by nuns who had chosen the name Orsoline, which found shelter next to the church of St Ambrogio.
Thanks to the influence of the Jesuits, their new house later became a school for the education of girls belonging to local noble families, under the control of the Duchy.
Protected by the Farnese and Bourbon families throughout the 17th and 18th century, the Orsoline institute became a female congregation mirroring the experience and methods of the Jesuits.

More details and facilities: the palace housing the institute, was built during the second half 18th century, on the location of the former church of St Anastasio, bought by the nuns thanks to the help of the Court.
The new palace was annexed to many more buildings, following the same architectural schemes and frames usually followed by Jesuits. The palace features are therefore similar to those of other nearby colleges, such as St Rocco: a central and square inner court, long corridors and vaults, spacious rooms instead cells.
Worth a special notice, the chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, in Bibiena style, the rich and precious antique furniture and several paintings by parmesan artists.
