open from the first of weekend of March to 8 December: Saturday, Sunday and festivities from 10.00am to 6.00pm; from Monday to Friday open on reservation for groups of minimum 15 people. Closed on Monday and from December to February.

full price without tasting euros 5,00; groups of minimum 15 people, schools children between 6 and 12 years old euros 4,00;  free entrance for disabled, schools, journalists and under 6; guided tour for minimum 30 people euros 20,00 plus the entrance ticket.

Description:

Tomato came from the United states and it soon found a fertile soil in the province of Parma from the second half of the 19th century. The museum couldn't have a more proper seat: at the Corte di Giarola, a centre for processing agricultural food products dated back to the medieval times, a former processing industry in the first 60 years of the 20th century.

The visit is divided in seven thematic sections starting with the history tale, the arrival of tomato in Europe in the 16th century and its progressive diffusion in the food culture; then a second section presenting the developing of the processing industry in the economic environment of Parma: from the product itself  to the preserve and canning, from sauce to juices. The third section features the developing of the production technologies and the fourth is about the product finished and ready to be packed. The fifth section is dedicated to the developing of the mechanical industry and the sixth tells about the people and their work in the factories. The culture of Tomato's world ends up the visit featuring advertising, paintings, sculptures, recipes and its wedding with pasta and pizza.

13 Km from Parma. By car from Parma South ring road exit 12 Via La Spezia, follow SS 62; by train railway line Parma-La Spezia; by bus Tep line n. 6.
