Mountain resort during the summer, Palanzano is located in a beautiful natural surrounding on the northern side of Mount Faggeto.
With probable Roman Colonial origins (Pallantianum), the Palanzano hamlet belonged to the Church of Parma when, in the year 1030, the Marquis Berengario II of Canossa claimed it as part of his fief under the feudal system.
After that, the Bishop of Parma could not regain control of the area and had to resign himself to seeing it in the hands of the Lords of Vairo, one of the predecessors of the Vallisneri family. With the defeat of Jacopo Vallisneri, Palanzano was passed to the actual government of the Municipality of Parma and became the administrative centre for autonomous jurisdiction of the Valle dei Cavalieri (Valley of the Knights).
The piazza, dedicated to the blessed Cardinal Ferrari, born in a part of Lalatta, contains on one side the Church of Saint Martin and on the opposite side the City Hall.
Palanzano is a tourist site, often frequented during the summer, situated on the northern slope of the Mt. Faggeto, from which one can go on many excursions to enjoy the panorama and the landscape of the area.

Weekly market: Wednesday in Palanzano and Friday in Ranzano.
